Shona Barr

Shona's inspiration is sourced in the natural environment: the transformative effects on the landscape of the ever-changing light, the seasons and the farming year. While her home in Angus provides a rich variety of subject matter, the wilder terrain of the North West Highlands also features in many of her paintings. She paints predominantly in oils and watercolour. Her textile pieces involve free motion machine embroidery using recycled fabrics in vibrant colours and contrasting textures. Having originally worked in veterinary practice, Shona rediscovered a long-held interest in art during a slow recovery from chronic ME. She attained the HNC in Fine Art at Dundee College in 2006. Shona has recently enjoyed working with Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust (THAT) as a lead artist on creative engagement programmes for people living with the results of a stroke. She also has part time job as a support worker with adults with learning disabilities. Shona has also exhibited work at The Meffan , The GALE Centre in Gairloch, Dundee Art Society, Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Pittenweem Arts Festival. She took part in Angus Open Studios for five years.
